Domestic package product sales up 60% year-on-year… Overseas travel products down 8%
It was revealed that the number of people preferring domestic travel over overseas travel during this year’s Chuseok holiday has increased.
According to Gmarket on the 16th, sales of domestic travel package products in the two weeks before Chuseok (1st to 7th) this year increased by 60% compared to the same period last year (September 10th to 16th, 2023).
By region, ▲Jeju Island travel package products showed the highest growth rate at 304%, followed by ▲Chungcheong (270%), ▲Jeolla (160%), and ▲Gyeonggi (130%).
Travel package products in Gangwon (40%) and Gyeongsang (28%) regions also increased slightly.
During the same period, sales of condominium and resort accommodation products increased by 32% compared to the same period last year.
However, there were cases where sales decreased depending on the region.
▲Sales increased in Gangwon (82%), Jeju (46%), and Chungcheong (38%), but ▲Gyeonggi (-20%), ▲Gyeongsang (-20%), and ▲Jeolla (-9%) regions sold less accommodation products than last year.
Hotel and residence lodging product sales also increased by 14% year-on-year, with sales increasing in all regions except ▲Gyeonggi (-37%) and ▲Jeju (-9%).
On the other hand, sales of representative overseas travel products, such as package and airline tickets, both showed a slight decrease.
Overseas travel package products decreased by 8% compared to the same period last year, and overseas air ticket sales also decreased by 5%.
A Gmarket official said, “Representative overseas travel products such as packages and airline tickets have both slightly decreased,” and “This year’s Chuseok holiday is longer than last year, so it seems that demand has increased to enjoy ‘Chukangs’ at domestic hotels or resorts.”
