The injections in his foot
“I didn’t want to talk about my foot during the tournament out of respect for my opponents. I played with no feeling in my left foot which was asleep for two weeks. It was necessary to block the nerves so that the foot was insensitive. That’s why I was able to play. I will continue to work to find a solution. Before each match I had to do a few injections and take anti-inflammatories. I no longer had any sensation in my foot thanks to an anesthetic which suppresses the pain. Roland-Garros is Roland-Garros and I wanted to give myself the opportunity to win. It was the only way to play. I thank my doctor for helping me. But I can’t continue to play tournaments with a sleepy foot. We must find a solution. In the current circumstances, I cannot and I do not want to continue playing like this. There are different options like the operation. We’ll see.”

“The idea is not to become the best player in history. I like tennis. I like Roger (Federer) and Novak (Djokovic) achieved all my dreams. I keep moving forward with the idea of improving my game. That’s my philosophy.
Wimbledon or not Wimbledon ?
“I will be at Wimbledon if my body is ready. I had great success there and I’m still ready to play this tournament. If I can play with only anti-inflammatories, I will play. If I have to do more injections, I won’t be there. I took the risk of playing here with a sleepy foot. I did it here, but I won’t do it at Wimbledon. Life is always more important than another title. My tennis career has been a priority. But my real priority is to be happy in life.”

“My cross backhand hurt him a lot. He failed to move well to adjust his forehands. He is a very good player who will be 4e of Race. He has progressed a lot. He is no longer just a clay court specialist. He works a lot. Today was a tough day for him but I’m sure his team is proud of him. We know each other very well. He and his family are healthy people. I would love to see him lift the trophy in the future.”
