Mick Schumacher, 23, spoke about his father Michael’s past exploits in the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, on the eve of taking the start himself for the first time at the Melbourne circuit scheduled for this weekend.

«I’m really impatient, I can’t wait to know the circuit and also the citysaid the Haas team driver.

«I came here with my dad and saw him race in Melbourne, it was really great, and I can’t wait to drive here myself and have my own Formula 1 driving experience in Australia“, he added.

He is taking part in this Grand Prix for the first time after having escaped a serious accident during qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix two weeks ago.

Michael Schumacher’s 2004 touyr record set to be broken

The young German driver born in Switzerland said he was ready to take on the Melbourne circuit where his father, seven times world champion, had won four victories at the wheel of his Ferrari in the 2000s.

Michael Schumacher set a lap record in Melbourne in 2004 which still stands but is set to be swept away this weekend after changes to the circuit to cut the time on each lap by at least five seconds.

Michael Schumacher suffered a serious skiing accident in 2013 and has not been seen in public since.
