On July 20, 1980, Karunanidhi, who was the then DMK president, inaugurated DMK Ilajanarani at Jhansi Rani Park in Madurai. M. K. Stalin was appointed as DMK Youth Secretary for the first time.
Mdmk Stalin held the post of youth secretary, one of the most powerful posts in the DMK, for more than 30 years. After Mukherjee Stalin’s promotion as DMK treasurer, on January 6, 2017, the post of DMK Youth Secretary was given to Vellakovil Saminathan.
