“I touched madness with my finger”: back with “Salam”, Diam’s confides in depression, Islam, politics

The film speaks for itself. Diam’s has chosen to tell the story in a documentary, “Salam”, presented this Thursday evening in a special session in Cannes. A particularly awaited event at the festival, failing to welcome the former rapper on the steps. The artist, Mélanie Georgiadès of her real name, who left the scene in 2010, has been discreet since her conversion to Islam. At 41, she nevertheless chose to explain her journey after music – we see no image of her as a singer and we hear none of her hits – in this feature film, which evokes her attempts to suicide, her hospitalization in psychiatry then the way in which she discovers religion.
