‘Ponniyin Selvan’, directed by Mani Ratnam and composed by AR Rahman, will release on September 30. The teaser launch of the film was held in Chennai. Speaking at the event, director Mani Ratnam spoke in detail about the making of the film and thanked everyone who worked for it.
Mani Ratnam, who opened the stage with a salute, said, “My first thank you to Kalki! I read this book when I was in college. It’s been almost 40 years and it still hasn’t left my mind.
This is a film that should have starred MGR in Makkal Thilakam. What he should do after ‘Nadodi Mannan’. But it was postponed due to various reasons. It was only today that I realized that he left this film for us. It is a dream of many and many have tried to make it happen. I myself have tried thrice in 1980, 2000, 2010. So I know how much responsibility there is. Now I am proud to have done this. AR Rahman, Ravivarman and all actors and technicians have helped to complete this. They came and performed in protective clothing even during the Corona period. Thank you to everyone who worked with me on this film despite all these difficulties,” he concluded with a touch of emotion.
