The case of Izan Guevara is notable. He was aiming for all possible ways to succeed in Moto2 after being the relentless winner in Moto3 in the 2022 season. However, things started out jinxed, since the Spaniard had to give up riding the bike in Portimao after injuring his right wrist and go through the operating room.

On his return two races later, things didn’t go too well. His data is worrying, since the best record he has achieved in the race is 18th position on the Kalex of the GASGAS Aspar. What is the problem? Nico Terol, who is the current sports director of the team, talks to Moto Sprint on the question.

“It is difficult to explain”, starts the former pilot, who assures that “If you analyze Izan’s entire career, in four years he won the European Talent Cup, the Junior GP and the Moto3 World Championship and I had never experienced such a difficult situation”.

Now, in Moto2, Terol says that “He had his first test in Valencia, and there he had his first fall. He did the test in Jerez and after two laps another came. Izan is always a very safe rider and does not crash frequently, and this, together with the fact that Moto2 is such a difficult category, means that he is experiencing a situation that we never expected”, narrates the manager.

Now the question comes in how can Guevara get out of that stagnation of results in which he finds himself: “If anyone can turn the tables in one fell swoop, it’s Izan. No doubt the day will come when he clicks. We are fighting, it is a difficult situation, he knows it, we are trying to help him by making him understand that it is a category where the bike moves a lot. When he clicks, he will step forward. The championship is still long”.

Terol mentions that the team is helping him solve the change, but that “he always complains about some parts of the bike, and I understand it because the perfect bike doesn’t exist, but I try to make him understand how this Moto2 is driven. In fact, she empathizes with him: “I have also been in this situation and one day I realized that I had to overcome myself: the first fight was with myself”.

He insists that “I try to convey that to him every day, that Moto2 is a complicated category and that he is a great champion”, but assures that “It is a difficult moment for him and we have to change the situation, that’s why we are here. It is from moments of crisis that I have learned the most”, recalls the Spanish expilot.
