Toprak Razgatlioglu does not give up. The Turkish rider has achieved two new podiums on Sunday in the Emilia Romagna Round, where he has been fighting for second place with Michael Rubén Rinaldi in a date where Álvaro Bautista has been intractable. The one from Yamaha has preferred to make a positive reading, but admits that he is concerned about the step forward that the Italian firm has taken this year.

After the Misano weekend, the Turkish driver has been critical of the Japanese firm, indicating that they are still stagnant and without making important changes or improvements to their R1, although he tried to maintain the pace during the race: “We haven’t made any significant progress since yesterday. Despite the good pace, I just tried to follow Bautista, who was unreachable even today.”.

Andrea Locatelli’s teammate pointed out that the good sensations he had with the new tire allowed him to fight in the leading positions, maintaining tire wear and grip against a Rinaldi who was very combative at home: “Like the Ducati, I used the new SCX tire instead of the standard specification. I struggled throughout the race trying to keep grip on the rear tyre. It was not easy to keep Rinaldi at bay due to the power of his bike on the straight, I’m sorry it fell off afterwards.”

“At the beginning I was aggressive because I knew that on the straight I didn’t have a chance,” commented Razgatlioglu, who is aware of the limitations of his motorcycle against the V4 R. That has not worried him excessively, and he has assured that he is happy with the result he has obtained at the Misano event, including that of the Superpole Race , where an accident between Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona caused them to have to show the red flag: “In general, I am satisfiedI take home these three podiums, although I regret the rest of the result of the Superpole Race. We knew we were strong because at close range Bautista’s advantage is reduced”.

The evolution they have had compared to last year has been very large, although the Turk is aware that it is not enough to stand up to the Ducati, of which he assures that they are the most complete motorcycles: “I have been 5 or 6 seconds faster than in 2022, Bautista even about ten seconds. This means that Ducati has considerably improved its technical package. It is no coincidence that every time there are several Ducati in the upper part of the classification. The Panigale V4 R is complete in terms of top speed, cornering and electronics”.

The one from Yamaha has been clear and ensures that leaving his team at the end of the season will not be a reason to stop fighting for victories weekend after weekend, as long as they let him from the brand: “As far as I’m concerned, I’m here to win, not to finish second and with Yamaha we will continue to roll up our sleeves from here until the end of the season”.

Lastly, looking ahead to the next round of the season, he has been convinced that he will be able to put in a good performance, especially with the new asphalt at Donington Park. In this sense, and looking at the configuration of the track, he does not rule out that we see a group race for the good of the fans: “I hope we all fight together I understand the boredom that is generated among the fans when they see Bautista always shooting alone. The same thing happens to me if I don’t get into battles, it goes against my nature.”concluded Toprak Razgatlioglu.
