A young mother in Münsterland suffers from a severe form of MS. She starts a fundraiser. She is overwhelmed by the overwhelming response.

Stadtlohn – There are two posts on Lena Meiering’s Instagram profile. The first: an appeal for donations that is intended to enable the seriously ill woman from Stadtlohn in the Münsterland (NRW) to undergo a therapy that is not yet supported by health insurance companies in Germany. The second video post begins with the words: “Dear ones, I don’t even know what to say. It’s unbelievable what happened today.”

Gratitude and relief are written all over the young mother’s face. Within one day, around 95,000 euros were donated for the woman suffering from a severe form of multiple sclerosis.

100,000 euros donation for MS sufferers: woman can do therapy in Mexico

“PPMS is the rarest and most severe form of MS and there is no cure,” explains Lena Meiering in a YouTube video that can also be seen on the website with the call for donations. She explains her current situation calmly and clarified. Again and again the most important terms are displayed in writing. The difficult living conditions are immediately clear to the viewer of the video.

The disease will continue to progress, Lena Meiering’s health will steadily deteriorate. “In the foreseeable future I will become a full-time care case. And I want to spare my children that.” It is already difficult for her to walk to the day care center, which is 250 meters away.

Her children, aged three and six, were the main motivation for the internet appeal. Lena Meiering would like to accompany the two as well and as long as possible on their life path. A stem cell transplant promises hope, which can halt the progression of the disease. In fact, the mother was even guaranteed one of the few therapy places in Mexico. But the health insurance does not pay the costs of 55,000 euros.

Costs are no longer a problem. So far, around 100,000 euros have been raised. Exactly: 98,038 euros (as of January 31, 2023). Around 1900 people took part in the campaign. The highest donation is 10,000 euros. Lena Meiering can have the stem cell transplant done in Mexico. It will be as far as March.

In her second video on Instagram, she not only expresses her huge gratitude. She also makes a promise to her followers: she would like to keep her supporters up to date as far as possible and tell them about her future life.
