In January 2022 Manel Vizcaino threw The citythe powerful single that would end up marking the new roadmap of his musical project, Atmospheric Nightmare. And it is that with that theme, which very successfully fused the rhythms of urban music with crunchy rock guitars to address the growing post-pandemic fatigue of the younger generations, the singer and composer from Sant Julià de Ramis “found the key” which has ended up bearing fruit butterfliesa twelve-cut debut full-length released by Metz Records last Friday.

“Rock has come back strongly all over the world, in a new wave in which, for example, groups like the American Blink 182 have returned to the scene. We want to occupy this space in Catalonia, that is to say, that of a rock band with more adolescent lyrics» explains Vizcaíno about the musical philosophy of a project that is largely summed up in the song that gives the album its name. “My life has changed. Now I write songs and make them come true. We don’t live on this but it’s not too late. And now my dream is to keep dreaming” sings the native of Girona in a song with the vocal collaboration of Guillem Solé, leader of the popular band Buhos.

Regarding the title of the work, the musician also points out that he had it clear since he started in the world of music. “I started making songs when I was 17 and even then I had it in my mind that the day I made an album, I would call it Papallones,” he explains. “The concept is mainly emotional, that is, I mean the butterflies in the stomach. I wanted each song to try to convey a specific emotion,” he adds.

A wide stylistic range

Despite traveling mainly through pop, punk and rock, Papallones does not close the doors to other genres, with ready-made cuts based on electronics (you approach), reggaeton (junk) or Catalan rumba (Casa). “It’s complicated, because certainly, as a group it makes sense to focus on one style. We actually follow the thread of rock and pop punk, because we love it and for now we will follow that path. But we listen to a lot of different music, so at the same time we like to play with other rhythms. I think that in the end it’s a bet that can open doors for you and you end up with a very varied audience” claims Vizcaíno, who says that for the concerts they plan to play with different rhythms as well as versions to “connect better” with the audience. “It doesn’t make sense to be a group that listens to very diverse music and doesn’t show it at concerts. That’s why, for example, we can be singing Butterflies and at one point go to the throw yourself away by Lax’n Busto.

Malson Atmosfèric puts music to the cry of a generation that wants to live

Produced, mixed and mastered by Omar Ferreté at Fatlab Studio, Butterflies is a work with which Malson Atmosfèric aspires to make a major leap. “We have done the fight. Now the fruits need to give flowers. But we have set a lot of demands. Hopefully this album will open the doors that should open for us. Now is the time to see how far we can go» points out the composer from Girona, who emphasizes that in recent times the project has not stopped growing, and that it already touches 20,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Prestigious collaborations

One of the highlights of this release is collaborations. Apart from signing Papallones with Guillem Solé de Buhos, the album also had the participation of the singer-songwriter Cesk Freixas and the former leader of the Animal group Gerard Aledothe young urban music singer Chloe, the garrotxí Backthe sleepy one Gem Sol or the disc jockey Marsal Ventura. “In the end it’s been incredible that artists that I’ve always admired and followed, have collaborated with me on my first full-length album,” says Vizcaíno.
