A Russian woman was caught trying to enter a security zone in France by hiding in the trunk of a car. The woman had twice been turned down by the Olympic organizing committee for permission to participate.

According to Le Parisien and other French outlets on the 24th (local time), on the afternoon of the 22nd, a car was subject to a police check near the Pont de l’Alma, which has been classified as a French anti-terrorism security zone.

The driver was a French man and the passenger was a Russian woman. When the police opened the trunk to inspect the interior of the vehicle, they found another Russian woman, Ms. A, hiding there.

According to an investigation by the Directorate General for Internal Security (DGSI) under the Ministry of the Interior, Person A was revealed to be someone who had requested permission to participate twice from the Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee, but was rejected during a security investigation.

He later applied to the Home Office for a pass to access the anti-terror zone, but this was also denied.
French intelligence officials did not disclose the Russian woman’s occupation or identity.

French authorities conducted administrative investigations of about 1 million people, including athletes, volunteers, private security personnel, and journalists, ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. As a result, they selected and excluded more than 4,300 people, including those suspected of interference in internal affairs, those subject to deportation, and potential terrorist threats.

Among them were journalists from Russia, which is at war with Ukraine and is under sanctions from European countries. Recently, the Russian state-run RIA Novosti news agency reported that five of its reporters were denied permission to cover the Paris Olympics.

“This is a direct infringement on freedom of the press,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. “It is unacceptable.”
