Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea, has recently been in conflict with some of the store owners of ‘Yeondon Bolkatsu’, a brand under The Born Korea, and has expressed his feelings about some of the criticism directed at him.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel on the 29th, CEO Baek sat down with some Yeondon Bolkatsu store owners who visited the cooking development lab at the headquarters of Daebon Korea to receive training on the new menu and discuss promoting Yeondon Bolkatsu.

He said, “We can force ourselves to promote by advertising. If we use advertising models like other places, we will eventually have to collect (the cost) from the store owners.”

He continued, “(Store owners) tell me to focus on my store instead of appearing on TV shows when I have time, but that really hurts me,” and added, “I try to appear on TV shows to raise (brand) awareness so that I don’t have to use (advertising) models, and I also try to keep costs as low as possible.”

This statement seems to be intended to reduce the burden on franchise owners by allowing those with high name recognition to actively participate in broadcast activities and create a de facto advertising effect.

Meanwhile, CEO Baek said, “I said that since I can use this opportunity to promote the new menu on (YouTube video) ‘Naekkeonaemeok’ (The Born Korea restaurant brand food review content), wouldn’t that be better?” and even revealed a video of himself eating the new menu item, ‘Open-Lid Chicken Lunchbox.’

Along with the video, CEO Baek added a message, “We may not be 100% satisfied with everyone, but we would appreciate it if you remember that we are always thinking and working hard for mutual benefit with our store owners. We will continue to work hard in the future.”

Meanwhile, a war of words is taking place between some franchise owners and the headquarters of Yeondon Bolkatsu, a brand under The Born Korea run by CEO Baek.

The Yeondon Bolkatz Franchise Owners Association claimed that The Born Korea had made false and exaggerated promises of sales and profit rates during the process of recruiting franchisees, and reported The Born Korea to the Fair Trade Commission on the 24th of last month for violating the Franchise Business Act and the Fair Trade Act.

In response, Daebon Korea denied the allegations, stating that it had never promised sales or profitability.

According to the information disclosure statement of Yeondon Bolkatz registered with the Fair Trade Commission and The Born Korea, Yeondon Bolkatz increased to 68 stores after filing in August 2021, but decreased to 31 as of the 26th. The average annual sales of franchise stores also decreased by about 40% from 259.76 million won in 2022 to 156.994 million won last year.
