The Venezuelan opposition leader, Edmundo González, issued a statement this Thursday denying that he received pressure from the Spanish Government to delay his departure from Venezuela to Spain. These alleged violations will have been made within the Police Headquarters in Caracas together with the Venezuelan Executive, a feature that has been raised during the day by the PP. “I was not forced by the Spanish government or the delegation,” the note said.

All this Thursday, the Deputy Secretary of the PP, Esteban González Pons, came to call the Spanish President a “debtor”, while the head of his party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, asked for the resignation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, for his administration regarding the crisis in Venezuela.

Now, González shows another version of what happened. “The Spanish Government undertakes to guarantee my safety during the journey to the Military aircraft,” the statement said. The leader of the opposition confirmed that he made the decision to issue this statement “in light of the various versions that have circulated about the alleged coercion committed by officials of the Spanish State.”

“The measures taken by Spain are intended to allow the continuation of the processing of the asylum request before Spain under conditions of security and respect for my rights,” the note read.

“I want to emphasize that these efforts are overseen and facilitated directly by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, under conditions of protection and respect for my rights,” he stressed. The opposition leader had already thanked the Government for its efforts to welcome him on his departure from Venezuela when this happened.

“Thank you Edmundo González for defending the truth against insults and insults to Spain and its foreign activity,” Albares himself said on the social network to be the opposition and others in which we have to be a country.” “Spain is committed to democracy and human rights,” he concluded.

Feijóo had confirmed hours earlier in a press conference in Rome after meeting with Prime Minister ultra Giorgia Meloni that “the Spanish Government has lied” about the asylum it had given to Edmundo González. “Spanish diplomacy, an important pillar of European diplomacy in Latin America, cannot be in the service of a dictatorship,” he added.

Full details from Edmundo González:

Given the various versions of the alleged coercion committed by Spanish State officials, including Ambassador Ramón Santos, against me, I would like to clarify the following:

I have not been forced either by the Spanish Government or by the Spanish Ambassador to Venezuela, Ramón Santos. The diplomatic efforts made with the sole purpose of facilitating my departure from the country, without pressure of any kind

me

The Spanish Government ensured my safety during my journey to the Spanish Military aircraft, and upon my arrival in Spain, as it happened. The main purpose of these measures is to allow the continuation of the processing of my asylum application before Spain, under conditions of security and respect for my rights.

I want to emphasize that their efforts are monitored and facilitated. directly by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, José Manuel Albares, assuring all the time my peace and freedom of decision.

With this statement, I hope to clarify any doubts or misunderstandings regarding my move and to also thank the Spanish authorities for their support and commitment to the protection of human rights.

Edmundo González Urrutia.
