“I was not happy not to play”: Pablo Sarabia admits to having been unhappy at PSG

by time news

Pablo Sarabia does not have good memories of PSG. After having a very good season at Sevilla FC in 2019, the Spaniard had signed in the club of the Spanish capital for 20 million euros. In more than three years, he has never really imposed himself, being only a luxury replacement behind Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé or Neymar. Transferred this winter to Wolverhampton, currently 15th in the Premier League, against seven million euros, the 30-year-old is back to life and has regained a prominent place under the leadership of Julen Lopetegui (six games played, five starts).

In an interview with the British daily The Telegraph this Saturday, the Spanish international (26 selections) returned to his Parisian adventure and assures us that he is much happier now. “I was not happy not to play, he admits. It’s very difficult to play with the level of PSG players so I made the decision to come here. In my career, I went through a lot of tough times, but now I think I want to enjoy the job. I feel like right now I’m in the prime of my career.”

“The most crucial thing is to feel important”

With only 362 minutes played in Ligue 1 this season, Pablo Sarabia was not one of Christophe Galtier’s first choices. And this lack of playing time made him suffer. “It was amazing to play with Messi, Mbappé and Neymar and it was a very good experience, but for me the most crucial thing is to feel important in the team. I prefer to be in another team to feel this unity, the feeling of being part of it and of being an important member of a family, rather than just a group of individuals, ”explained the one who marked his first goal with Wolves against Fulham on February 24.

The Spaniard then revealed behind the scenes of his transfer and wanted to greet his coach, Julen Lopetegui. “He called me very early (after his appointment in November). When he called, says Sarabia, it was key because I needed a coach who believed in me. We already have a relationship for a long time. He’s a very good coach and I like his DNA, the way he coaches and the things he does. For this reason, I was very excited to come here”. Finally, this transfer will have arranged everyone.
