A second medal for Maxime Grousset in Fukuoka! After his bronze medal on Monday in the 50m butterfly by twice improving the French record (22′’74 then 22′’72), the 24-year-old Frenchman finished 3rd in the 100m swimming final on Thursday during the World Championships in Fukuoka (Japan). Placed on line 1, he led the race for a long time before being overtaken by Kyle Chalmers (Australia).

A great satisfaction for Grousset, with the added bonus of a new French record (47′’42). The New Caledonian, vice world champion in title of the discipline, had only finished 4th in his semi-final in 47′’87. He was therefore able to raise his level during this final.

“Madness allowed me to remobilize myself”

“I went to get that one! I set up a totally different scheme (from the semi-final) and it paid off, rejoices the swimmer trained at INSEP by Michel Chrétien. I am very very happy. I put myself in the shoes of someone who wants to win. My goal is the gold medal, I’m getting closer to it little by little. I’m still doing my best time. Grousset indeed improves his French record by a tenth of a second.

And this 100m final opens up some perspectives for him: “I didn’t have a perfect race. The madness allowed me to remobilize after the semi-final. I swam alone in my lane. This is my second medal in the 100m. I was second (last year), third, I’m still not crowned world champion, but it will happen one day”.
