“I will never tolerate insults”: why Adil Rami clashed with Trojan supporters

Sunday, an hour after the defeat, Adil Rami, the 2018 world champion, found himself struggling with around twenty Trojan supporters, as he was preparing to leave the stadium with his partner. Rami has been the target of various rudeness and insults, such as “Leave the club”, “Leave the club”, “You and the others (players) have sunk the club”, “Go back home”…

According to L’Est Éclair, some supporters who came to OM-Troyes 15 days ago at the Stade Vélodrome complained that the Trojans did not come to greet them after the match on Sunday. Another criticized Rami for appearing in the middle of a video game on Twitch the day before a match.

Far from keeping a low profile and slipping away, Rami, exasperated by insults uttered to relatives, told supporters that he was not letting these invectives pass.

The debates escalated when two supporters crossed a gate to find themselves directly in contact with the player. The latter let his detractors know that he was ready to make the punch with them, one by one. However, Rami was led back to the parking lot by club employees, while the individuals were subdued by security guards.

“I shouldn’t have reacted like that”

However, on Sunday, Estac, even beaten at home, was not below everything, even coming close to equalizing at the end of the game. As for his captain, he did not produce a performance especially subject to debate.

After the incident, the club’s management said in a statement that it condemned all forms of violence and was preparing to discuss this Monday with those concerned, Adil Rami and representatives of supporters’ groups, wishing to “shed light on the facts and reserves the right to make decisions”.

The world champion also reacted on his Instagram account. “I understand the disappointment of the supporters and believe me, I am the first disappointed and frustrated. On the other hand, I will never tolerate insults made to my relatives or my teammates. That’s why I lost my temper after the match, after being insulted by a few individuals. I shouldn’t have reacted like that. Until the end, I will give my maximum on the ground. I never cheated,” he wrote.
