For Točas, it is a return to the Riga team, with which he once won the Latvian championship, playing in the diagonal forward position. In the Baltic Super Cup matches of Fracht, coach Raimonds Vilde used him episodically in the position of the first pace player, but the future position of the universal player on the field is still to be decided.
“I’m in the “big family” – the team again. There are different feelings. I keep myself in shape while there is a break in beach volleyball,” says Toch.
“Now I perceive grass volleyball differently. I don’t feel nervous at all. I enjoy the event and understand that nothing has been forgotten,” says the volleyball player.
He mentions that the skills needed in volleyball come back quickly and “after two practices I can hit the ball”.
He emphasizes that beach volleyball has not been thrown to the side, because during the holidays of the “Robežsardze” club, he leads training sessions at the “O-Sands” courts in Riga.
“When there is more clarity about next year’s beach volleyball tournaments, we will plan what’s next. Most likely, it won’t be sooner than spring,” predicts the volleyball player, saying that this is a good opportunity to stay in shape and return to beach volleyball with fresh breezes.
Točs mentions that he has agreed with the head coach of the Riga club, Vildi, that in case of a good offer in beach volleyball, the club will not put up obstacles. The volleyball player emphasizes that even during the previous cooperation, the club has always allowed both him and Mārtiņš Pļaviņas to play beach volleyball when it is necessary.
“It’s still unknown who I’ll be playing beach volleyball with next year,” Toch says.
It was planned that he will spend the next season together with Pļaviņš, but Točs mentions that maybe something will change after the European Championship, where Pļaviņš won with Kristians Fokerota.
“That was the agreement, but we will see how it will be realized. When the beach season ends, then we will also see,” says the athlete.
“With Jānis Šmēdiņas, we had the goal of qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris. It did not work out, and therefore the cooperation is finished,” says Točs for the season and cooperation with Šmēdiņas.
He says that the goal was not fulfilled, although the duo had several good tournaments – both the “Saulkrasti cocktail” and the “King of the Court” tournament.
In the “Cronimet” Baltic Men’s Volleyball League in the 2024/2025 season, Latvia will be represented by Jēkabpils “Lūši”, “Robežsardze” and “Ezerzeme” University”, while Estonia will be represented by Tallinn’s “Selver” x “TalTech”, Tartu “Bigbank”, “Parnu” ” and “Barrus”
