The first of the Republic, single baccalaureate session 2024, series in Mathematical Sciences (SM) spoke to the media yesterday Wednesday July 24, the day after the official publication of the results.

This student at the Saint Gabriel school group, located in the Cimenterie/Fofomérè district, said he wants to pursue higher education in Mathematics applied to computer science and pursue a career in the field of programming.

Foromo Justin Koïvogui, since it is about him, does not believe that being first is a random fact but rather the fruit of hard work that requires long preparation.

“Being first in a nation, you should not expect something fortuitous, you have to work hard. For me, it is a goal that I had set for myself for a very long time. Already, it is the fruit of a long preparation. So when the results came out, I saw that I was first, it was almost a confirmation. Because I knew that with transparency and rigor, I could be first in the republic. It is rather the opposite that would have surprised me. The key, it is almost easy, because to achieve any goal, you need hard work. It was still very hard at the beginning but with the activities, the effort provided by my supervisors from the beginning of my course until now, it is still thanks to them because you cannot be a prizewinner by yourself, even less through the teachers, you (teachers and students) must work in synergy and also I based myself on the deep understanding of the concepts (courses) that were taught in class.

Continuing, he emphasizes: “I did not rely on understanding things morally or simply, but I always went in depth to understand the mechanism of things. Sometimes I also followed video courses and with the support of my teachers, I was able to achieve this goal. So, I tell myself that it is not the result of chance, it is deserved.

After classes and some revisions that we did at school, when I got home, I didn’t have enough chores to do, all the parents were counting on me because they knew that I could be first if only I worked. So, once there, all I had to do was some household chores and continue my revisions. I worked night and day to be able to achieve my goal because it’s not just about being intelligent to be first but you have to work hard. As Thomas Edison said, “that genius is made of 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration”. So, in achieving goals, it is work that counts more than inspiration.”

Speaking about his ambitions, this winner dreams of continuing his studies in major American or Canadian universities.
“It is not in a single country, I would still like to take courses in major universities whether in America or Canada. I would still like to go to a renowned institution so that I can have all the knowledge I want to have to come and serve my country in good faith,” he insisted.

To his friends who did not reach this milestone and to those who wanted to be winners, Foromo Justin Koïvogui advises them to stay strong because temporal failures are not definitive failures.
“The message to my friends who did not achieve their goals, some who wanted to be laureates but unfortunately they could not get this place and there are others who could not even get the baccalaureate. All I have to tell them is not to procrastinate and to give it their all. With courage and determination, they will be able to succeed next year. All I ask of them is to stay strong because temporal failures are not definitive failures. Winston Churchill said

that “success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.” So, failing is not failing in life but rather it is a step to take to reach the goal.

Further, this graduate confided that he was often on social networks but for study purposes in groups and learning sites but in a moderate way.

“Being first is not always about revising or having fun, it requires collaboration. Because there are times when you have stress. So, you have to have fun but not go further. Because the brain needs rest. With social networks, personally I have accounts but when I go there are mainly sites, there are always parts where you can follow online courses. I went on YouTube almost every day because I had online courses, I also have math teachers in France and I also have an application, schools in Senegal and some teachers who supported me. With social networks it was moderate. I want to be a website programmer, I want to do mathematics applied to computer science. Right now, it’s an immense feeling that drives me,” he said.
