For A. Gudzis, the Paris Olympic Games is the third in his career.

Before that, the discus thrower in 2016. participated in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and in 2021 competed in Tokyo.

The experienced athlete finished 12th in both Olympic Games, so it is natural that he wants to improve the result achieved before.

“The goals are top six and up. I’m going to do what I can, to give myself to the maximum, no savings, nothing, I’ll have to drive to the end (smiles – ed.) and make the name of Lithuania famous so that it sounds,” said A. Gudžius.

“To enjoy… it sounds like a problem with our language, that the word sounds like some kind of recreation.” As I said, I’m looking forward to the competition itself. When you enter the stadium, there is the true Olympic spirit, the true celebration and the true joy. A rare athlete gets to feel the roar of the stadium, the support of the people and the emotions that overwhelm you. The Olympics weigh, and they weigh a lot. You have to carry that burden up to the sector, and then in the sector itself,” the discus thrower added.

On Friday, a tragedy occurred at the famous Stade de France. No, man did not perish in it, man’s hope failed in it. Lithuanian track and field athlete Airinė Palšytė became this accident on Friday morning. The 32-year-old Olympian, who dramatically made it to the Paris Olympics, finished them ahead of time. Finally, it became clear what kind of trauma the Lithuanian woman suffered. Not only that, the athlete shared her thoughts after a very painful moment.

It is symbolic that the start of the Lithuanian athletics team was announced by the country’s athletics princess A. Palšytė, she was the first of her compatriots to start her performance at the Olympic athletics tournament on Friday.

High hopes and a great desire to reach the Olympic finals – the beginning did not promise anything bad for the athlete: the athlete, who met her fourth Olympic Games, easily reached the height of 183 cm, and then 188 cm

And then the sweet dream turned into a nightmare.

We are turning 80 thousand. the 192 cm high bar became insurmountable for A.Palšyte in the stadium that accommodates spectators. The main reason for this was the injury suffered by the jumper.

“After conducting detailed investigations, it became clear that high jumper Airina Palšyte ruptured her cruciate knee ligaments and meniscus during the selection process for the Olympic Games.

The four-time Olympian is scheduled to undergo an operation in Lithuania next month,” LTOK wrote.

A. Gudžius also mentioned the injury of his long-time colleague.

“It was very painful to watch. The feeling was very disgusting, if you can say that, because I know for sure how prepared she was, what she went there and what she could do. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone in my life. Physical trauma heals, but with it comes psychological trauma.

She kept having bad luck with injuries before the Olympics, before the biggest starts of the year, and now she came to one of the healthiest Olympics of her life and this kind of thing happened right during the competition…

But what she showed is that no matter how you feel, you come here to fight and you do it to the end. No one will ask for more fighting.

Yes, now there will be and maybe there are people, maybe even she thinks that she shouldn’t have danced extra, but at the time when you are in the sector, you don’t think about what hurts you. You wonder if you can or not. And does it work… imagine what it would look like if she had jumped 192 cm with this situation? It would be space. Carried on our hands, we would say that it is a fairy tale.

Now he didn’t jump, he tore off (knee ligament – ed.)… there are such cases that who needed it… that’s not how it happens. There is no common sense there (in the sector – ed.). Common sense remains in the meeting place. That’s why we work hard so that you don’t have to think too much during the competition. There is already adrenaline, madness to the point of impossibility, because the best athletes in the world are coming together”, – A. Gudžius told the episode of her colleague’s injury with her own eyes.

– Who are your biggest competitors in Paris?

– Mykolas Alekna, Kristjan Čeh, Daniel Stahl, Matthew Dany. All these main. Will something new come out? I don’t know. My plan is the top six, because the top six athletes will all be worthy of medals. To single out one… let’s look at the last two or three Olympics – those predictions… who and what will win – one, and those who hit the top six, someone from that top six then shares the medals.

– A month ago, you said that you would like to throw the discus 66 meters. What’s the mood about it now?

– This is the minimum qualification limit, and in the final with 66 meters… 6-7 places are possible. Clearly, my preparation for the day is better than 66 meters. The physical condition allows to achieve a better result, but again… we can talk about who and what we want. Better to be more modest. If you manage to do better – everything is fine, but if you talk… then carry an extra suitcase to the sector (smiles – ed.), where you don’t need extra weight…

– Ieva Gumbs advised you to wear earplugs because of the roaring fans. Did you put them in?

– No, I can’t hear either the fans or the music. Being in the sector, you cannot hear what is happening around you. I understand it very well – my first Olympics were exactly the same. Really a lot of emotions, a lot of impressions. What did I say about the Olympic spirit…

It is a much bigger event than the World Cup or the European Championship. There is a lot of everything. I am almost retired in sports by age (laughs – ed.). Of course, I’m joking, but I have that experience. I hear the audience when I need their help, when I ask them to support me. I try to concentrate on my work.

– How is your health? Do I need to take medication before competition?

– Strong drugs are needed, but everything can be done. I adapted. You saw my result in Hungary – 66.50 meters. This showed that we made the right decisions – changes in technique and training program. Yes, I may not be able to use my potential to the maximum, as far as I have physical strength, but by adapting certain movements, processes, I managed to take a step forward. It would be great to have a season best at the Olympics.
