In his address to the Agency’s Board of Governors on the PCT for 2024-2025, Mr. Farhane called on the Secretariat to preserve this fundamental principle, while requesting approval of the financial resources necessary for the implementation of the programme.

Adapting the PCT to the needs of Member States, particularly developing countries, should be designed and implemented in a way that maximizes coordination between the IAEA and all relevant partners and stakeholders, the diplomat stressed.

Morocco “regularly contributes to the Technical Cooperation Fund and remains convinced that technical cooperation should benefit from secure, predictable and sustainable financing for better implementation of technical cooperation projects, especially since several projects concern the vital area of health and nutrition,” he observed.

The Kingdom has supported the implementation of innovative technical cooperation initiatives and believes that technical cooperation programs not only benefit the development of nuclear applications in many countries, but also contribute to strengthening safety and security, he continued.

In this context, Morocco welcomes the Atoms4Food initiative, launched jointly last month by the IAEA and FAO, and looks forward to collaborating with the Secretariat in this regard. The Kingdom encourages the Secretariat to continue to create synergies and coordinate the implementation of the Agency’s initiatives, in close consultation with Member States and regional groups.

In addition, Morocco welcomes the IAEA’s efforts to align technical cooperation activities with the Sustainable Development Goals, Mr. Farhane said. Seven years before the review of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, the IAEA should strengthen its actions to take the initiative and contribute to achieving the goals set for the SDGs in 2015, he said.

And to conclude that Morocco remains fully committed to continuing to share, either bilaterally or in cooperation with the IAEA, its experience with its partners as well as with interested countries, particularly those in Africa, with a view to promoting peaceful, safe and secure use of nuclear applications, science and technology.
