IAEA: Russians restrict contact with occupied Zaporizhia nuclear plant – Politics abroad

by time news

Now the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is sounding the alarm about what is happening at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant near the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia.

Because the Russians are violating important pillars of nuclear safety!

▶︎ There are communication problems with the Russian soldiers who have taken control of the Shaporizhia nuclear power plant. This also applies to the staff in the switched-off accident reactor in Chernobyl, where communication can currently only take place via e-mail. In Shaporischschja there are also problems in supplying employees with food. “I am extremely concerned,” says IAEA chief Rafael Mariano Grossi.

Not only that: the guidelines state, among other things, that the staff must be able to carry out their safety tasks without pressure.

︎ But that may no longer be the case: the nuclear power plant will continue to be operated by regular staff, as Ukraine has informed the IAEA. The factory management is now under the command of a commander of the Russian army. And he has to agree to all the necessary measures in connection with the technical operation of the six reactor blocks.

According to information from Kyiv, the Russian armed forces have severely restricted communication with personnel by shutting down the Internet and some mobile networks, the IAEA said.

“Reliable communication between the regulatory authority and the operator is a crucial part of overall nuclear safety and security,” Grossi continued.

However: He also pointed out that all radiation values are currently in the normal range and that operations are running smoothly.

Putin’s psychological warfare: Just a few days ago, a fire broke out in an outbuilding on the site of the nuclear power plant in the course of hostilities. That could be deleted quickly.

Nevertheless, it must be assumed that the Russian despot knows about the fear effect of such events – and that they fit into his concept…

In addition to the nuclear power plant near Zaporizhia, Putin’s army also captured the famous power plant near Chernobyl, the scene of the 1986 disaster, in the first days of the war.
