Iberdrola has acquired 20% of LatemAluminiumto accompany Latem in a pioneering large-scale aluminum recycling project that will reach an investment of 120 million euros until 2024 and will help create 800 jobs before 2026, 300 of them direct.

Iberdrola’s investment in this initiative, backed by the Junta de Castilla y León and declared a Priority Industrial Project, reaffirms its commitment to innovation as the driving force behind green industry in Spain.

The LatemAluminium project is based on the circular economy of aluminum and the use of technologies to produce 30,000 tons of rolled aluminum at its factories in Villabrázaro -Zamora- and Villadangos -León-. The process includes from the transformation of scrap into aluminum ingots and liquid aluminum to the transformation into rolled aluminum coils and their subsequent commercialization.

The new Villabrázaro factory occupies a 55,000 square meter warehouse and will only use recycled aluminum, mostly from the Villandangos factory. The first operational tests of the factory will be carried out in the last quarter of the year, so that the first aluminum coil of the official start-up of the factory will see the light of day in the first quarter of 2024.

This investment is channeled through Iberdrola’s startup program, Perseo, which has already allocated more than 125 million euros to support entrepreneurs and industrial businesses worldwide that help accelerate the decarbonization and electrification of the economy.
