Iberia and TAG Airlines, the flag carrier of Guatemala, signed an interline agreement through which each airline can market the other’s tickets and routes, with the main objective of promoting connectivity between that country and Europe.

With this agreement, Iberia incorporates Belize as a new Central American country to which its customers will be able to travel, while at the same time it will be able to offer new destinations in the interior of Guatemala such as the renowned archaeological zone of Tikal, Flores or Puerto Barrios, among others. Likewise, travelers originating from the Central American nation will be able to connect with more than 100 destinations in Europe.

Also present at the signing of the agreement were Marcela Toriello, president of TAG Airlines, and Julio Gamero, CEO of TAG Airlines, who highlighted that the alliance with Iberia will directly benefit international passengers, who will have a greater range of destinations at their disposal. trip.

At Fitur 2023, a Letter of Intent was also signed with the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT), an institution that was represented by its general director, Anayansy Rodríguez.

The objective of this understanding is the commitment to work on a tourism promotion campaign for 2023 between both parties, an action that has been carried out in recent years and that seeks to promote the extraordinary cultural and natural wealth and diversity of heritage -among which its varied flora and fauna stand out, as well as its natural landscapes- of that country.

Iberia has been strengthening its position in Guatemala and, in fact, recently increased its weekly frequencies to seven, which returned connectivity between the two countries to the daily flight. This increase in capacity, which began to be applied from January 2023, represents the complete recovery of the figures that Iberia had before the outbreak of the pandemic, in 2019. Similarly, it allows Iberia to increase seats to almost 200,000 available to travel between Guatemala and Spain this year.
