Iberia has become the first sponsor of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to publicly pronounce on the Rubiales case and has called for “measures to preserve the dignity” of the soccer players.
“When offensive situations occur, inappropriate for a developed, modern and egalitarian society like the Spanish one, Iberia supports the appropriate and pertinent measures that must be taken to preserve the rights and dignity of athletes”, he defended this Friday to through a message on your account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The airline Iberia, belonging to the holding company International Airlines Group (IAG), has thus become the first of the twenty sponsors of the RFEF to rule on the controversy generated after the non-consensual kiss that the president of the highest national football body, Luis Rubiales hit player Jenni Hermoso in the mouth after winning the Women’s World Cup final.
In relation to its sponsorship, Iberia has indicated on social networks that “it will continue to support Spanish talent, sport and football”.
Iberdrola, the main sponsor of the women’s national soccer team, has not yet made a statement. Other sponsors of the Federation, such as Renfe, tell Efe that “it is time for the Higher Sports Council (CSD) and its performance, which we strongly support.” The Higher Sports Council has already initiated the procedures to suspend Rubiales from his duties as president of the RFEF, as a result of his refusal to leave his position.
