The fifth edition of the CEAPI Congress, held in the Dominican Republic, brings together more than 300 personalities from the Ibero-American corporate and institutional sphere

The fifth edition of the CEAPI Congress culminated in the determination to continue building ‘more Ibero-America’, consolidating a united, sustainable and digitized region. Held on Latin American soil for the first time in the history of the Congress, with the Dominican Republic as the organizing country, the event has brought together more than 300 business leaders, business families and prominent institutional figures -such as Felipe Vicini, Executive President of Inicia; Jaime Gilinski, president of the Gilinski Group; María José Álvarez, president of the Eulen Group; Jordi Hereu, president of Hispasat; Andrés Allamand, Ibero-American Secretary General – to discuss and create alliances on the key issues that mark the international agenda.

Thus, throughout the two days of the Congress, the main issues that mark the international agenda have been addressed -through round tables, one of which has been moderated by the president of Vocento, Ignacio Ybarra- and the the position that Ibero-America acquires in the new world order, all through the prism of uncertainty that marks the current context. In this way, businessmen have addressed issues such as the potential of Ibero-America as a future renewable energy hub; the general role of the region in the current scenario of uncertainty – on which Andrés Allamand has pointed out the Ibero-American duty to “prepare for what is to come: first by generating a pro-growth environment and, later, by improving governance and guaranteeing social peace »– or the opportunities of Ibero-America in the agri-food field as the world’s future pantry. Manuel López Donaire, president of Delaviuda Confectionery Group, has detailed the importance of “investing in the extremes of the value chain and, in the first, that of food raw materials, Ibero-America has a treasure”.

The Congress has also had the outstanding presence of the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, who has claimed the country’s key role in the modernization of the regional economy, also pointing to “innovation, digitization and technology as keys to achieve sustained and sustainable economic development.

With presence in the two days of the Congress, the Dominican Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ito Bisonó, has emphasized the role of CEAPI as a forum for exchange between businessmen and institutions in favor of the social, economic and financial stability of the region, as well as in the role of the Dominican Republic as a growth lever for Ibero-America in the coming decades. In this regard, the minister pointed out that “we are definitely facing an unprecedented global context, but one that represents an unprecedented opportunity for our countries, which must promote greater cooperation and integration at the regional level, boost exports and intra-regional trade and bring new investments that translate into greater economic and social development for all the countries that make up Ibero-America».

With a special focus on the key role of innovation, digitization and technology, this edition closes with the commitment to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the region, add value to existing resources and alliances and actively generate new windows of opportunity. . In this way, the group of business and institutional personalities gathered at the Congress have agreed on the great challenge that the region faces during the coming decades, highlighting the need to continue innovating and undertaking and to strengthen cooperation with interest groups to obtain the best use of the potential offered by the Ibero-American land.

A decalogue for the business future

During the two days of the Congress, the bulk of the businessmen and senior executives attending the V CEAPI Congress wanted to join the manifesto prepared in this edition, which reviews the challenges and objectives of the local private sector for the coming decades and reflects the commitment that it take with the Ibero-America of the future, which “has enormous potential to take advantage of the transformations caused by the pandemic with key natural resources, demographics and growing venture capital.”

The document claims the need to maintain a united Ibero-America, directed towards sustained and sustainable growth and focused on innovation, digitization and entrepreneurship. Additionally, it calls for public-private cooperation in the key sectors of the economy and recognizes the social responsibility of companies in a scenario of increasing poverty and inequality.

With a clear base on transparency and ethics, the manifesto is aligned with the fight against climate change through the energy transition and the commitment to sustainable urban environments and rural well-being and looks to the future by delegating to companies the responsibility to prepare future generations of entrepreneurs.
