Zimbabwe once established itself as a very powerful team in the cricket world. Their traditions have been swept away by time. But cricket remains. The ICC, the world cricket’s apex body, has stepped in to revive their cricket. Now they are building a stadium in Zimbabwe.

Cricbuzz, an Indian media based on cricket, said that the stadium will be built near one of the country’s tourist centers, Victoria Falls. It will be named ‘Mosi-wa-tunia.’ 10,000 spectators can sit and enjoy the game in the stadium.

The foundation stone of this stadium was laid by the country’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Two global events have been cited as reasons behind its creation by the ICC. Zimbabwe plans to host the global tournament in 2026 and 2027 on this ground.

Speaking at the groundbreaking, Mnangagwa said, ‘The location of the stadium in the city will undoubtedly contribute to the rapid achievement of tourism targets and our national development aspirations as outlined in the National Development Strategy 2030.’

Next year, Zimbabwe will jointly host the Under-19 World Cup with Namibia. Along with that, the African country is also the co-host of the 2027 World Cup. Zimbabwe is preparing itself for these tournaments. The stadium is being built in its continuation.

The government of Zimbabwe has already acquired 10 hectares of land for the construction of the stadium. ICC is paying the full amount for the construction of this stadium. It is estimated to cost between 5 and 10 million dollars to build. The ICC will not provide additional funding for anything other than this.

The Victoria Falls Stadium will be developed as a multi-sports stadium. Apart from cricket, there will be facilities for playing rugby, hockey and netball. All in all, Zimbabwe is going to get an international standard stadium.
