A new study from the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University in Massachusetts, USA, yielded some interesting results. The scientists made a so-called Food Compass, in which they gave all foods a score from 0 to 100 – the higher the score, the healthier the food.

Striking results

“Once you go beyond the usual ‘eat your veggies, avoid soda’, many people are quite confused about how to choose healthy options at the grocery store or restaurant. Consumers, policy makers and even the food industry itself are looking for ways to steer everyone towards healthier choices,” said Dariush Mozaffarian, lead author of the study.

If you take a close look at the results of the Food Compass, you will probably be amazed. For example, a multigrain bagel ‘only’ gets a score of 19/100, while a cone with ice cream and nuts scores 37/100 and lightly salted chips 59/100. A steak gets a 33/100, while salmon with 95/100 almost gets the maximum score. Interesting results, that much is certain!
