(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 29 – The Israeli army says it “eliminated” 5 Palestinian fighters on the second day of a large-scale “anti-terrorism operation” in the West Bank, the Times of Israel reports. According to a joint statement by the IDF, Shin Bet and the Border Police, Israeli forces killed 5 Palestinian gunmen hiding in a mosque in Tulkarem, in the West Bank, including Muhammad Jaber, known as Abu Shajaa, who Israeli security organizations accuse of planning several terrorist attacks, including a shooting in June in which an Israeli was killed. The statement said troops exchanged fire with the terrorists before killing them. Another militant was arrested. Palestinian media identified the arrested individual as Muhammad Kasas, a high-ranking member of the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group in Tulkarem. A fighter from the Border Police’s Yamam unit was slightly injured and was treated in hospital, the statement added. (ANSA).
