IECM addresses community conflict management

He Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) reported the training of its staff in conflict management, through conservatories called Quality Circles.

Through these talks, he explained, the Institute’s staff is trained, mainly assigned to District Headquarters, who organize citizen assemblies in which neighbors deliberate on issues related to their community, such as the Participatory Budget.

“The Quality Circles aim to identify, analyze and resolve problems related to daily institutional activities that impact the performance of the Electoral Management System, through small, short-term improvement projects,” explained the IECM.

During the first of these circles, the coordinator for Latin America of the Galtung Institut, Fernando Montiel He highlighted the incorporation of methods for conflict resolution.

In this regard, he pointed out that, although citizens and officials have different interpretations of social problems and the role they should play, it is possible to establish agreements through transparency and communication.

Finally, he invited participants to envision ways to strengthen civic education and the application of methods for conflict resolution through a culture of peace.
