IECM and migrant community councils meet

Counselors of the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) held a meeting with representatives of Mexican migrant organizations, in order to learn about the community’s experience during the last election.

During the meeting, held at the Institute’s headquarters, the advisory boards heard about the experiences of Mexicans living abroad during their participation in the last election day.

The president of the councilor IECM, Patricia Avendano Duranexpressed the importance of “seeing where the windows of opportunity are and making the necessary proposals.” He added that the institute’s interest in the migrant community is not only focused on the issue of the electoral process, since there are other alternatives that must be explored in order to have a closer relationship.

For his part, the electoral counselor, Mauricio Huesca Rodriguezassured that the IECM has maintained a permanent link, not only in matters of elections, but also of participatory budgeting, promotion of civic education, among other issues.

In this regard, he reported that extraterritorial participation will be sought in the Consultation for Girls, Boys and Adolescents 2024which is carried out by the Institute, mainly with the support of the consulates of Chicago, Wisconsin and community centers in the neighboring country.

In her speech, the electoral counselor, Erika Estrada Ruizexpressed the need to establish a joint agenda to receive constant feedback on the needs, opinions and proposals of Mexicans abroad, and thus be able to collaborate through all areas that are part of the institution.

In it Ordinary Local Electoral Process 2023-2024 45,873 votes were received from abroad for the Head of Governmentand 45 thousand 742 for the Migrant Deputation.
