The General Council of Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) declared the start of the Extraordinary Local Electoral Process of the Judicial Branch 2024-2025for the election of judges and magistrates in the capital.
In an extraordinary session this December 26, the counselor Cecilia Hernandez Cruz explained that in the election of judging persons a multiple vote will be implemented, which implies a challenge in the design of the ballot, the definition of criteria to qualify the vote and the deployment of intense institutional campaigns so that citizens identify how to mark the ballot in order to prevent your vote from being involuntarily annulled.

Regarding the scrutiny and counting of votes, he recognized that, by incorporating multiple voting and counting from the district body, there will be an important technical challenge to develop guidelines that generate certainty and clarity.
IECM prepares for judicial election
After his intervention, the counselor Ernesto Ramos He detailed that in the judicial election, which will take place on June 1, 2025, in Mexico City, 5 members of the Judicial Disciplinary Court will be defined, as well as magistrates and judges.
“In no case can the percentage for judges be less than 25 percent of the positions that exist and in the case of magistrates it cannot be less than 40 percent,” he noted.

For her part, the counselor María de los Ángeles Gil recognized that the organization of an election like the one proposed by the Reform of the Judicial Branch implies an extraordinary effort to adapt regulatory norms, adjust budgets, and train personnel.
“Even with budget resources below what was requested, we will execute the powers that the legislature placed in this institute and we will comply with this institutional mandate,” he assured.
