The Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) has announced the celebration of the Debate among the candidates for Migrant Council, as part of the Ordinary Local Electoral Process 2023-2024.

Next April 15 It is the date on which the IECM will carry out the Debate between the candidates for the Migrant Deputation, within the framework of the Ordinary Local Electoral Process 2023-2024.

Counselor Sonia Pérez Pérez made the announcement during a virtual information session for the Chilanga community based in the United States, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston.

The main objective of this debate is to promote voting among the Mexican community abroad and give them the opportunity to learn about the proposals of the candidates who seek to represent them in the Congress of Mexico City.

It will be an important occasion for Chilangos and Chilangas abroad to learn about the electoral platforms of the different candidates.

Counselor Pérez urged the migrant community to tune in to the debate, which will be broadcast through the IECM’s social networks, and thus be aware of the proposals and visions of the candidates.

He recalled that this will be the second time that the figure of the Migrant Council has been elected, whose objective is to represent the interests and needs of the migrant community abroad.

Currently, three candidates are competing for the position of Migrant Deputy. However, the electoral process imposes restrictions on the distribution of propaganda abroad and the hiring of space in the media.

Counselor Pérez pointed out this paradox and highlighted the importance of seeking communication alternatives so that the migrant community can access information equitably.

The IECM has implemented various strategies to ensure that people abroad are informed about the candidacies, including the inclusion of a “Polyptych” in the Postal Electoral Package (PEP) that will be sent to residents abroad.

This polyptych will contain information about the candidacies and a link to videos where the candidates will present their messages.

In addition, the “Conóceles” website has been made available to the migrant community, where you can consult details about the candidacies for the Migrant Council and other public positions in Mexico City.

Counselor Pérez called on the Chilanga community abroad to exercise their right to vote through the different modalities available, whether postal, electronic or in-person voting at authorized consulates.
