Iran: the policy of looking towards the East between isolation and decadence.- Mohsen-Kamran Vahedi Eyvazi
This opinion piece addresses the causes of the decline of the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially after the imposition of sanctions in 2018. Among other consequences, these would have led to an increase in public dissatisfaction and the efforts of the system to preserve the structure and ideals of the regime.
Growing challenges coming in the shadow of tensions with the West push Iran towards eastern powers. Thus, it is worth mentioning the agreements between Iran and China or the proximity of Tehran to Moscow in the middle of the war in Ukraine. However, it does not appear that these measures can constitute a definitive solution that will save Iran from isolation or from the serious multidimensional challenges it faces.
