Jihadist scenarios in the south of the Sahel.- Óscar Garrido Guijarro
In recent years, sub-Saharan Africa has become a fertile space for the drift of global jihad. The two main global jihadist networks – Al Qaeda and the Islamic State – have extended their attacks on the African continent with the aim of imposing Salafist rigorism. In this document, jihadist activity in the south of the Sahel will be analyzed, starting with two scenarios bordering the Sahelian region and closely related to it: Nigeria and the Chad basin on the one hand and the coastal countries of the Gulf of Guinea on the other, specifically Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast and Ghana. Subsequently, the current situation in other scenarios such as Mozambique, Somalia, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda will be analyzed.
