The first days of 2022 began with the news that spontaneous protests were taking place in Kazakhstan, the trigger being the rise in LPG prices. Despite the fact that more than half of the country’s crude and natural gas production ends up in Europe, supplied via Russia, the news received limited coverage in the media, beyond the lurid scenes of violence that followed. produced and from Russian military intervention. However, the geostrategic importance of Kazakhstan goes beyond being a mere producer of hydrocarbons, gas and minerals, but rather its constant search for a strong and productive economy has led it to take advantage of emerging business opportunities such as cryptocurrency mining or the Chinese project called the New Silk Road. For this reason, this article seeks to develop an analysis of the events that allows us to understand their background, as well as to estimate the possible future geopolitical consequences.
