NATO, beyond resilience.- Francisco Javier Gamboa Herraiz
The author, through the evolution of human nature in relation to the defense of communities, addresses the need to adapt the NATO defense model to the challenges of the 21st century. He highlights how current threats, especially in the cyber sphere and undeclared “war” in the so-called “gray zone”, have changed the way security is perceived. He argues that NATO must focus on the resilience of member countries’ societies, raising awareness of the need to maintain a high level of preparedness and alertness to protect their values and ways of life. Two fundamental pillars for defense are presented: critical infrastructures and people’s awareness. The importance of educating and providing society with tools to confront the influence of adversaries is highlighted. Ultimately, there is a need for society to actively participate in the collective defense of the Alliance, being a key deterrent against any adversary.
