The Korean Peninsula: two different systems, a latent conflict and the foreign and defense policy of Yoon Suk-yeol.- Ramón Pacheco Pardo

The Korean Peninsula is one of the last strongholds of the Cold War. North Korea is a communist dictatorship, with an economy among the poorest on the Asian continent. South Korea is one of the most vibrant democracies globally, as well as one of the largest and most advanced economies in the world. The divergence between the two Koreas is the product of decades of conflicting policies. But the result is that Seoul and Pyongyang are immersed in a latent conflict that has no signs of resolution in the short term. Neither periods of rapprochement nor periods of confrontation have made the two Koreas take irreversible steps towards reconciliation and eventual reunification. Aware of this reality, Yoon Suk-yeol’s government has launched a policy towards North Korea that mixes diplomatic aspects and aspects of cooperation.
