The war in Ukraine and the food crisis: its impact on the Sahel.- Silvia Alonso Cirbián
The war, which began in February 2022, has produced tangible consequences in both countries: Ukraine and Russia. However, one of the main characteristics of the conflicts of the 21st century is that their effects go beyond the borders of States, and become a security problem that ends up affecting the entire international community.
This document intends to analyze one of those consequences, and demonstrate that there is a direct connection between the Ukrainian conflict and the current food crisis that the Sahel is experiencing, circumstances that, although first distant, maintain a close cause-effect relationship due to the extreme dependence of the Sahel on the arrival of agricultural exports from Ukraine and Russia.
