Türkiye and its importance as a NATO ally.- Natalia Marcos González
Relations between Turkey and NATO have been marked by ups and downs in positions and in meetings between various allies and third States. Within this geopolitical framework, Turkey has known how to play its role, causing certain effects in the Alliance.
The notable distancing from the West that is taking place in the country, the tensions between certain states and the presidential elections in May augur a possible change of course for Turkey within NATO.
The aim of this article is to explain the Turkish attitude towards the Western bloc by analyzing the events that have led to the current situation. To do this, the country’s internal problems, foreign policy and bilateral relations will be reviewed, paying special attention to the figure of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, its leader.
