Vatican geopolitics of climate change.- Evaristo Jaime Gutiérrez del Castillo
Climate change has gone from being a risk-enhancing factor for global security to becoming a threat in itself. Most countries and the main international organizations understand this and the successive reports on the state of the climate from the World Meteorological Organization attest to its progress year after year. Despite this, climate change continues to be the subject of debate between those who deny its existence and those who use it for ideological purposes.
In a geopolitical and social environment full of confusion, the Vatican has something to say. His evangelical and apostolic mission does not prevent him from denouncing the global environmental deterioration caused by rampant consumerism. It could be said that, in the field of international relations, the Vatican practices a geopolitics whose essential features fit with liberal institutionalism.
