On Thursday, Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trumpassured that if he returns to the White House he will make the government or insurance companies cover the cost of the treatments of in vitro fertilization (IVF) for “all Americans in need.”

“Today I am announcing in a major statement that under the Trump Administration, your government will pay – or your insurance company will be required to cover – all costs associated with IVF treatment,” Trump said during a rally in Michigan.

Los reproductive rights have been a weak point for Trump since during his term, in 2022, the Supreme Court, with the support of conservative judges, eliminated federal protections for access to abortion.

The issue gained further notoriety after an Alabama court ruled last February that frozen embryos created using such a technique should be considered “children.” Trump supported IVF after several clinics paused their services following the ruling.

The tycoon did not explain how such free support would be financed; however, during an interview with NBC before the event, Trump stated that one option would be that, under government orderinsurance companies assume the costs.

The costs of fertility treatments in the United States exceed the 20 thousand dollars for an initial 18-month treatment and very few citizens have insurance that covers such treatments.

Trump proclaimed himself in favor of the family and suggested that if he wins the presidency for a second time, parents would be able to deduct major expenses for newborns from their taxes.
