Calcutta is in turmoil in the RG tax case. Last night the women gave ‘Midnight Occupy’ programme. Responding to this call, the people of Kolkata took to the streets at midnight. A sleepy Calcutta was awakened by the spontaneous participation of the people. Along with the common people, the performers of Kolkata also participated in it.

Indian Bengali cinema actress Souraseni Maitra also hit the streets at midnight. While walking in the procession, he told an Indian media, ‘The dam of human patience has been broken. Otherwise such spontaneous support would not have been available. This struggle is no longer limited to the student movement. It has now become a human struggle.’

Common people have raised questions about women’s safety. Its manifestation is the midnight procession. Souraseni said in this regard, ‘Movies are made about events. We go to see that movie in the hall. Then forget it! But this time can not be forgotten. This time the torture of women must be stopped.’

Souraseni said that the ‘occupy night’ program is not a one-day protest. It is the first step of the ladder. So what next? In response to this question, Souraseni said, ‘I raised my voice today, I will raise my voice tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. As long as it doesn’t stop, I will not be silent. And if the throat does not work, I will raise my hand if necessary!’

RG wants exemplary punishment for the culprits in the tax case. And let it happen in front of people’s eyes. Referring to this demand, Souraseni said, ‘If a girl cannot be protected at her workplace, then where are the women of the society protected?’

Women are constantly being victimized in the society. But it does not come out publicly. In this regard, Souraseni said, ‘If you ask the 10 women who came to the procession, you will know that they have been harassed at some point in their lives.’

Demanding speedy punishment of the culprits in the RG tax case, Souraseni said, “This society needs faster reform than the work of reforming the RG tax hospital.”
