‘If Meghamalhar had done it today, their relationship would not have been so pure’; Kamala

Director Kamal said that when he thinks about it today, there have been films that he felt should be reworked. Kamal said that ‘Meghamalhaar’ was shot considering the family audience as well and that it was intended to show some intimacy between the characters in the film.

Kamal said that if Meghamalhar had been done today, the relationship of two married people would not have been like this, it would not have gone to such purity, and there was a fear that the family audience would not accept it. In an interview with The Q, the director also spoke about the over-emotion and melodrama given to the movie ‘Madhuranombarakat’.

When I watch the movie now, I feel that Maduranombarakat has handled too many emotions. The film won the second best film award that day. The then famous director Syed Mirza was the chairman of the jury. He didn’t know me then. When I spoke to him once, he said that he had seen Maduranombarakat and that it was a good movie but he felt it had a lot of emotions and melodrama. I feel that if I had compromised on it then, it would have turned out to be one of my best films. There was no possibility then, today there is.

Another is the film Meghamalhar. If I had done Meghmalhaar today, maybe the relationship between two married people would not have turned out like this. It would not have gone to such purity. Would have approached it a little more honestly. I thought about it in pre-production. There was a fear that the family audience would not approve of physical relations.

‘Cause they take a hotel room, they get physical, and the next morning they watch the sunrise. That’s where they say they can break up. Even today, I still think so. There was a fear that the family audience would never accept it,” added Kamal.
