If Messi plays, the next World Cup will be for Argentina, says Juan Riquelme

Argentinian veteran Juan Riquelme has praised Messi for helping him win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The former player also says that Argentina can reap many benefits from Messi’s excellence.

The South American giants secured their third World Cup title in Qatar by defeating France on penalties in the final. Argentina have performed well throughout the tournament, recovering from their first group match defeat against Saudi Arabia.

Speaking about Argentina’s big win in Qatar, Riquelme praised all the players who gave their all for the national team.

“I thank the players for all the Argentinians for the joy they gave us,” he told PSG Talk.

The former Barcelona star added that he was happy that his compatriot Messi finally got the chance to win the FIFA World Cup. Riquelme said:

Football lovers wanted to see Messi lift the trophy. Everyone wanted to see Messi lift the crown. “Messi has shown in the tournament that he deserves to win it.”

“I always say that as long as Messi plays, Argentina will always be favourites. He likes to compete. He plays beautifully,” he said.
