“If they come and get me …”: Michel Platini does not rule out becoming president of the FFF

by time news

A return to a leading role in French football? While he no longer has an official function in football, Michel Platini does not rule out the idea of becoming the new president of the FFF in the future. Guest of the show “Rothen ignites” on RMC, the triple Ballon d’Or (1983, 1984, 1985) was asked about the possibility of succeeding Noël Le Graët as president of the French Football Federation. The former Juventus player did not say totally no. After the end of his career in 1987, the former number 10 of the Blues found himself in high office in certain bodies, such as the post of vice-president of the French Football Federation (2001), or that of president of UEFA (2007-2015).

Suspended from his duties in October 2015, the FIFA Ethics Committee suspected him two years later of having received an “unfair payment” from Sepp Blatter which deprived him of any football-related activity for eight years. After a suspension reduced to six and then 4 years, he was cleared in 2018 by the Swiss courts in the case of the payment of 1.8 million euros without a written contract.

Inevitably, we imagine that a return to business tickles him. And he always said that if he ever came back to football, it would be to take on a new position. If he does not close the door to becoming president of the FFF one day, Platini does not intend to embark on this adventure on his own initiative. “For the moment there is a president. If it’s from myself, no, but if someone comes to get me, you have to think about it, says the person concerned. I am not asking for popular support. We’ll see how it goes. »

If he finally wants to get started, Michel Platini, 67, will have to wait until 2024 and the end of Noël Le Graët’s mandate. “You have to go to the elections, work, move, go see people, have a program. I was vice-president of the French Football Federation and president of UEFA so I know all that, ”concludes the 1984 European champion with the Blues.
