If they start talking about money, hang up

The main mark for anyone is the moment they start talking about money, hang up the phone. This was stated by Zlatka Padinkova – head of the “Frauds” sector at the State Police.

“Telephone fraud has never stopped, it’s just been less in previous years. It’s been less for a number of reasons,” she added.

“The reasons for this are the number of actions with the Romanian colleagues, in which the main figures, perpetrators, of telephone fraud were arrested, but they are currently already out of prison and accordingly resume their activities and thus try to catch up on the lost “funds”, while they were behind bars”.

“These are crimes where without any investment, a lot of profits are generated,” added Padinkova.

She pointed out that telephone fraud in Bulgaria in recent years has been carried out from the territory of another country. The scheme is implemented through prepaid SIM cards on a random basis on mostly landline phones. Zlatka Padinkova clarified that everything in telephone scams is random.

“In the mass case, the victim herself shares all the information that the telephone fraudster needs to successfully carry out his criminal intentions.”

In telephone scams, the main victims are adults, and children are incidental cases. Phone scams are “always about money.”

“The main telltale sign for anyone is the moment they start talking about money, hang up. That’s the surest way to stop a phone scam.”

According to Zlatka Padinkova, telephone fraudsters are very adaptable and very quickly adapt to the type of victim, whether they are easy to manipulate and adapt the scenario accordingly, writes BNT.
