Edgbaston: Former opener Wasim Jaffer said that there is little chance of the Indian team (Team India) reaching the final in the ICC Test Championship (ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023). It will be difficult for India to reach the final with the current results. India is not going to play many more Test matches’, said Jaffer (Wasim Jaffer). Jaffer’s reaction came when India received a two-point penalty in the fifth and final Test against England at Edgbaston (ENG vs IND 5th Test). India have six matches left in the Test Championship.

Team India lost the chance to win the Test series in England. This comes after England leveled the series at 2-2 with a seven-wicket win in the last Test at Edgbaston. Centuries scored by Jonny Bairstow (114*) and Joe Root (142*) led England to victory in the crucial Test. Scoreboard India: 416, 245 & England: 284, 378. The hosts batted with a target of 378 runs to win the first session on Day 5. Bairstow-Root added 269 runs. Jonny Bairstow was selected as the player of the match and Jasprit Bumrah and Joe Root were selected as the player of the series.

Double blow for India

After the defeat against England in the Edgbaston Cricket Test, the Indian team suffered another setback. India’s points were deducted due to low over rate in the series which is part of the World Test Championship. Two points were deducted. Apart from the deduction of points, India was fined 40 percent of the match fee for low over rate. With the loss of two more points due to low over rate, India slipped to fourth place behind Pakistan in the table. India currently has 75 points in the World Test Championship (52.38 points percentage). Aussies are first and South Africa are second.
