premiere, day August 28thon the YouTube channel of the International Film Academy (AIC), AICinematicthe first of 4 projects carried out within the White Water Park. After the airing of each episode, a Cine Debate will be broadcast with the cast, director Vanessa Prieto and part of the technical team.

The Web Series If This Park Could Talk

The series “If this park spoke” was performed by students from the 4th class of the Technical Course in Acting for Film and TV and students from Filmworks. In 5 episodes, the production follows the daily walks of the characters, the elderly Mr. Jose (Antônio Natal) and his caregiver Cecilia (Bárbara Ricciardi), to the Água Branca park and presents the stories created by the duo about the local visitors. Held after the pandemic and before handing over the park to the private sector, the series is a historical record of this iconic space in São Paulo that is now undergoing transformations.

One Episode a Day

Each episode takes place during a weekday. From Monday to Friday, the series pays homage to stories and aesthetics that have marked the audiovisual sector and our imagination. The Água Branca park is the setting and also the main character of the production. Its historic mansions and animals such as ducks, chickens and horses, in addition to traditional equipment, such as the reading space and the amusement park, help to build the narratives that pay tribute to cinema and also to soap operas, which built the imagination of these narrators.

Series director and AIC Academic Coordinator, Vanessa Prieto recalls spaces and equipment that were part of the park’s landscape and can now only be seen in the production episodes. “The series recorded a historic moment in the post-pandemic park, such as the return of the seniors’ ball, and filmed traditional attractions that disappeared after being granted to private management. “If this park could talk” helps to preserve the history of this iconic and almost centenary place in the city. We still have three more films to release, which should premiere in 2024, and each one in its own way fulfilled a role of documenting and reflecting on its time.”

Ethnographic research and interaction among AIC students

The project for the series “Se esse parque falasse” was born as one of the final projects for the Technical Course in Acting for Cinema and TV. From classes on ethnographic research with Professor Fernanda Raquel, an actress trained at the University of São Paulo and PhD in Communication and Semiotics at PUC-SP, students began to visit the park to analyze the behavior of visitors and improvise stories based on this experience. local.

“The scripts for each episode were written by the cast of the series. The project gained strength and brought together students from other areas of AIC. Students of screenwriting courses Gustavo Silva e Victor L Meyer created the framework that tied it all together beautifully. The Photography, Sound, Art Direction, Directing Assistance Team is made up of Filmworks students who joined TAC students in making the series that promoted great interaction between school members”, highlights Vanessa Prieto.

“The TAC films are an opportunity for students from all over the school to assume leadership roles and an opportunity to sign on as team leaders of a series project. In addition to building a portfolio, the students were able to practice the Film Set experience. Many relationships and working partnerships emerged within these projects, even production companies. They are “guerrilla” films, filmed in 5 days, borrowing their spaces from reality, working with natural light, everyone collaborating, even post-production, with sound editing and post-production, which in the case of the series was carried out by former student Antonio Salavery, graduated in editing by AIC.

In Se Esse Parque Falasse, each episode of the series honors an aesthetic, or audiovisual genre. The stories bring romance, suspense, humor, drama and other genres that permeate the daily lives of the public at Água Branca park. “Through these narratives, the series portrays this traditional space in São Paulo and its visitors and revisits classics from cinema and television to talk about some of our deepest dilemmas”, says the director.

Other Movies for 2024

There are plans to release two more films in 2024. They are “White Water, I (I don’t know if) I love you” (60m), a medium-length film shot in 2019 by the 1st group of TAC.

“Des)i(solados” (90m) which is in the post-production phase, shot in 2020, made by the 3rd group of TAC. This film takes place on the first day of reopening the park, after 5 months closed due to the pandemic of COVID-19.

And the fourth film, “When everything disappears”, was shot in 2022, when the park had already been transferred to the private sector. This film portrays the disappearance of young Rebeca, creating an analogy to the disappearance of the park as it was until then. All films will be released on the AICinematic channel.
