Superstar Rajinikanth is currently acting in Jailer directed by Nelson. The first look of the film is out. This film is produced by Sun Pictures. It is expected to release in January 2023.
Rajini has worked with young directors successively like Ranjith, Karthik Subbaraj, Siruthai Siva. He has promised to make a film again with some directors. Even recently, there were reports that he was going to do a film with Ranjith.

Rajini had said that if Kannum Kannum is looted after watching the film, he will personally call the director Desingu Periyasamy to make the next film. Rajini suddenly called Nelson and gave him a chance when it was widely expected that these two would join.
Director Karthik Subbaraj was waiting in this queue. He made his debut in Kollywood with the film Pizza and then gave the biggest hit film Jigarthanda. After watching this film, Rajini gave Karthi a chance.

Last year 2019, the film Petta in which they collaborated became Rajini’s 165th film. Rajini, Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha, Simran and Samuthirakani acted in this film. After hearing about this film, Rajini told Karthik that he will do the next film. But no call came from Rajini.
Karthik Subpuraj also waited and watched and started work on the second part of his first hit Jigarthanda. Jigarthanda was released in 2014. The film starred Siddharth, Lakshmi Menon and Bobby Simha.
