New Delhi: Most of the families with annual income of Rs 5 lakh and above live in about 150 districts of the country. This assessment has been presented in a report released on Tuesday. According to this report of MapmyIndia-backed data analytics firm ClarityX, prosperity has increased from 17 to 30 percent across the country in the last four years. According to the report, ’60 percent of the families with annual income of more than Rs 5 lakh are present in the top 20 percent (about 150) districts of the country. Two-thirds of the total districts above the all-India district average are in Western India. Among these, the share of the fastest growing districts is also the highest.’

On what basis was the progress of the districts measured?

The report measures the progress of districts on the basis of socio-economic indicators such as income distribution, social incentives like healthcare, per capita educational facilities, availability of infrastructure, financial activities like banking coverage, etc. These indicators are used to arrive at the District Potential Index (DPI).

To measure the growth of districts, the DPI scores of 2019 are compared with those of 2023. The number of districts in India has increased from 723 in 2019 to 788.

Bengaluru and Hyderabad No. 1 and 2

According to the report, Bengaluru Urban and Hyderabad districts have been ranked top two with the highest scores among all 788 districts in 2023. Jharkhand and Tripura have emerged as the states showing the highest growth in the central and eastern regions. Some of the fastest growing states are from the northern regions like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

The report says there has been a significant improvement in healthcare infrastructure, with the number of healthcare facilities per 1,000 people increasing from 263 to 903.
